Crooked I on new Wide Awake compilation
« on: April 15, 2012, 08:02:57 AM »
What's good everyone. In case you didn't know already, Wide Awake (Death Row) is dropping another compilation called "20 to Life: Volume 1". The first song on it is called "So Crooked" and although the artist is labeled as "Redrum", it's really Crooked I. Not sure if trickery is involved to sneak the track onto the project or if it's a legitimate mistake. Anyway, as you guys probably know, that song has been leaked for a very long time now. Check out snippets -

Redrum was the name of a rap group on death row

it has to be a misprint

Well, yeah, I mean Redrum is another group completely. However, it isn't clear how they could have messed this up that bad. I mean the song is CALLED "So Crooked", lmao.

this is obviously a trick since crook dissed them about bootlegging hoodstar, in the beggining i supported wideawake but this is a fucking joke...clearly they just dont give a fuck anymore. they're just trying to cash out the leftover material, trust me when i tell you that they are keeping the VERY BEST material to themselves..

Yeah, the very first thing I thought it that it WASN'T a mistake and that it was intentional.

As far as them keeping the best material to themselves, you aren't kidding.

Wow. I just looked at the track list and listened to the snippets. What a random assortment of tracks. There's no rhyme or reason to any of it. Who's running Wide Awake?

It would be a nice addition to my collection anyways, but they really assign separate CEO's to each division of Wide Awake, one's that protect the integrity of the original artists vision.

Wow.  This is laughably bad.  It's a pretty sad state of affairs when casual fans are more knowledgeable about Death Row's material than employees at the company, putting these releases together.
In my opinion, Wide Awake/Death Row had one chance at being a legitimate record label, and that was when they launched under the direction of Lara Lavi.   What they have become since then, is pathetic.  They're a third-rate catalogue  release company that can't manage to put out albums with songs that are unheard, or even properly mastered, or even playing at the correct speed, or even under the correct name!
Having said all that, I'm going to stick up for WideAwake, just a little bit.  I don't believe that WideAwake is really intentionally withholding the good tracks.  At least not for the most part.  I don't even think WideAwake is currently run by hip hop fans or anyone who has any interest in holding on to the tracks.  I think there's just no one over there at that company that has any idea what they're doing.  They probably don't even know what songs they have.  Remember when Lavi was in charge of the company, they were trying to go over everything, meticulously and catalogue every song that they had.  I really doubt that there's still a serious effort over there, to do that.
Also, with respect to the original WideAwake, they tried to release unreleased Dr. Dre tracks and they got sued.  I'm sure it's currently the same situation with the Tupac material.  I'm not trying to make excuses for what they're currently doing over there, but I do think it's a shame that back when they were actually trying to put effort into their releases, they were hindered by lawsuits.

Well, like you said, it doesn't matter if it's the one on Hood Star as the others already leaked anyway. lol
