KXNG CROOKED & SMH Records: "Open Letter To The Internet"
#1
From: http://thebossboard.com/article.php?newi...I-JOXsmPLc

Quote:KXNG CROOKED is preparing for the release of his brand new mixtape experience Sex, Money & Hip Hop which is currently available for pre-order. While fans await it's arrival, Crooked and SMH Records have offered an open letter to the Internet expressing their vision for the project.

If it weren't for the online world of Hip-Hop supporters -- generally called "the internet" -- Slaughterhouse's KXNG CROOKED likely wouldn't be where he's at today. The internet embraced Crooked and his House Gang brothers long ago, which ultimately led to the creation of Slaughterhouse and their signing to Eminem's Shady Records. The internet helped carve out a solid career for Crooked and has allowed him the opportunity to travel around the world and do what he loves to do. Every blogger, every online journalist, every forum comment and social media share played a part in his brand development.

While it's true that the internet has been an amazing launching pad for countless artists, there are times when it has been a pain in the ass to major record companies. Album leaks, for one, have somewhat crippled the industry and thrown months and even years of hard work to the wayside.

Now fresh off the heels of his appearances on the #1 Billboard album in Hip-Hop -- Shady XV -- KXNG CROOKED prepares to release Sex, Money and Hip-Hop, a mixtape experience centered around the idea of the pre-internet days. The days of nostalgia for many, when the only way to hear an album was to go down to the local record shop and buy it with your hard-earned cash, or pick it up from your local DJ selling mixtapes out of the trunk of his car. We want this to truly be a mixtape experience --- the way so many of us grew up on.

Therefore, with the release of Sex, Money and Hip-Hop we are counting on the fans. We are asking the fans who purchased this album NOT to upload it anywhere online, but to keep it tucked away in your own little stash for your own mixtape experience. This is a piece of history. A collector's item. A rare piece of art. There are limited copies of this album being manufactured, and you may just be one of the lucky few who own a copy forever.

We believe the fans will want to keep this art from going public via the internet and we are trusting you with this. You see, if this album is uploaded online the value of it decreases drastically, much like a baseball card or a rare comic book. It's simple: keep it retro. Keep this album offline and keep it valuable.

As a special gift to you from KXNG CROOKED and SMH Records and as a thank you for your cooperation, we are including a second copy of the album for FREE with your purchase (while supplies last). One is for your listening pleasure, and the other is a keepsake for you to hold onto, unopened, as a Limited Edition collector's item.

So thank you, Internet, for all you've done for us. We are not turning are back on you, we are simply keeping it authentic for a throwback mixtape experience.

The Boss Board is asking that fans honor KXNG CROOKED and SMH Records' wishes on this matter as it is an effort to truly appreciate the project and it's place in Hip Hop history. Readers who support this move are encouraged to discuss the topic on our official fan forum as this is a chance for the Circle of Bosses community to truly come together.

Great job Dominick.....let's alienate the same fan base that has supported you for years and in many ways kept you relevant.

While I can appreciate the thought, but not having this sold anywhere but the label's website? Come on now. That's pitiful. Last couple physical CDs I bought from one of Crookeds site was a very poor quality CD-r. It was embarrassing.

This is YET ANOTHER fumble from Crooked. How many times is this going to happen? How fucking hard is it to properly release an album and have it sold at retailers? At least on Amazon? Considering how many few people will buy this album, probably less than 1,000, what was the point of it?

Does anyone else think Crooked likes fucking with his fans just to see what our reactions will be? Does anyone remember the DOC days of Crooked making announcements about announcements that would never come lol?

Hi Putsomepmoneyonit,

Apparently, you did not "peep reel shit" from Crooked- considering how both PFWW and Planet COB V1 were released on cd-r, straight from Crooked. Also, you should know by now that anything released or said by "crookeds crew" cannot be relied on. Fans have been told some many things over the years, it makes us skeptical with every single release.

I think anyone who has come to this board for some time knows that I am a huge Crooked fan, some might even go so far as to say I'm a "stan" based on how I only listen to Crooked or HSG, but I call it like I see it and Cymba is dead on with what he is saying.

Crook is alienating his fans, he should be able to put this out through a major retailer, might make less on each copy but surely he would sell more, but then maybe not enough to justify the amount he would receive. I can see why these choices would be made, but they don't make it easier for me to get his cd.

I mean I think what's happened is that Crook only supposedly sold 1000 copies of AP and thinks that if people are forced to buy his album he'll sell more, unfortunately for multiple reasons I think this plan is short sighted, I believe he'll sell a similar amount, but only be heard by the 1000 or so people who bought it, which are spread across the globe, as opposed to selling 1000 copies and then the 20 000 people who will download it for free, then want to buy your merchandise and see you in concert

And then you have the other problem that Crooked has a reputation with shady business dealings, and it's like the boy who cried wolf when it's finally true no one believes him. I fully believe that SMH is on the level with all this but after so many other problems in the past I wouldn't blame anyone for being hesitant to throw money there way

For the record I'm not mad at this deal, a little disappointed that I've been excluded based on the fact I don't want to buy a CD in 2014, but if Crooked and SMH look at numbers and it makes sense then good on them, it's his career and the dude has given me a ton of free music, I can't support this business model but I hope it works out for him
